1. What capacity of Solar system do I need ?

2. What is Net Metering ?

Net Metering is a mechanism followed by Discoms which calculates the Units produced by your Solar system and units consumed in your premises. If the consumed units are more than the produced units then you will be only charged for the differential in the bill. If the Produced units by Solar system are more than the consumed then they will be carry forwarded to the next billing cycle.

3. What is an On-Grid, Off Grid and Hybrid Solar System ?

In an On-Grid Solar System all the units generated are transmitted to the grid. These units are added to the electricity bill and adjusted with the total units consumed from the grid. In an off-grid system your solar system is not connected to the Discom grid. Whatever electricity is generated it is stored in the battery of the Solar Inverter. In an Hybrid system Solar generated units are first consumed in the premises, then the surplus will get stored in the battery of the inverter and third stage of surplus units will be transmitted to the grid.

4. How much time will it take for Solar system to be deployed at my home along with the activation of Net Metering ?

Typical capacities deployed in an independent homes is 3 KW to 19 KW. Timeline to accomplish the entire process is around 30 to 45 days.

5. What is the Return on Investment of Solar System ?

ROI of Solar system typically varies from 15% to 35 % with a payback period of 3 to 5 years. It is also subjective to yield generated from the area which depends on the availability of sunlight/daylight throughout the year.

6. Will my Solar System generate electricity during cloudy or rainy days ?

9. How Solar System helps the Environment ?

10. What is the best time to clean the panels ?

11. What is the subsidy available by Govt as part of Central Financial assistance scheme ?

Capital Subsidy is provided by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for deploying On-Grid Solar system. It is Rs 78000 for Independent Homes for system capacity between 3 to 10 KW. There are capital subsidies for some State Government's as well of up to Rs 30000 which is in addition to the one provided by MNRE. This scheme is available till 31st March 2027.

12. What is the Capital subsidy available for Housing Societies ?

Capital subsidy available for Housing societies is Rs 18000 per KW till 500 KW of capacity. For each household subsidy of 3 KW is possible which includes common area as well.

13. What is the area needed to deploy solar system ?

Solar system needs preferably a shadow free on the Rooftop or Ground based systems. 1 KW generally needs an area of around 30 Sq feet. Subsequently area needed for higher or other capacities can be extrapolated.

14. Will my On-Grid Solar system generate electricity when Mains supply is not there ?

No an On-Grid Solar system will not generate electricity when Mains supply is not there. Solar Inverter needs electricity when it converts DC power to AC power. DISCOM Grid accepts AC power only as AC power can travel longer distances which is needed for Power Distribution Ecosystem.

Yes , if any Corporate is eligible to spend their profits on CSR then as per Government rules Solar system is considered a part of CSR spent as they help the society for saving the enviroment.

16. What is Gross Metering ?

Gross Metering is a Mechanism provided by a lot of DISCOMs wherein Solar plant deployer gets paid for the electricity units produced and transmitted to the DISCOM Grid.
